BAP Almirante Grau

BAP Almirante Grau was and is the name of four ships of the Peruvian Navy named after Admiral Miguel Grau Seminario.

  • The first BAP Almirante Grau was a protected cruiser that was built in the UK. On August 10, 1907, she met with her sister ship, the BAP Coronel Bolognesi in Peru. On 24 June 1958 she was also provided along with the BAP Coronel Bolognesi, out of service.
  • The second BAP Almirante Grau ( CL -81 ) was originally named HMS Newfoundland ( C59 ). She belonged to the Crown Colony - class and was also built in the UK. In 1960 she was asked by the Peruvian Navy as a flagship service. In 1973 she was renamed BAP Capitán Quiñones (CL -83) and decommissioned in 1982.
  • The third BAP Almirante Grau ( CLM -81 ), a light cruiser built in the Netherlands, originally the name of Hr. Ms. De Ruyter. In 1973 it was joined by the Peruvian Navy in service. It is still in use today. In the years 1985-1988, during modernization work was carried out on the ship in Amsterdam, the name was changed to Proyecto de Modernización 01 or PM -01.
  • The 1978 by the Peruvian Navy, commissioned in BAP Aguirre (CH -84) was called from 1985 to 1988, while the BAP Almirante Grau ( CLM -81 ) has been modernized, BAP Almirante Grau ( CH -81 ). Originally, the light cruiser was part of the Royal Netherlands Navy under the name of Hr. Ms. De Zeven Provinciën (C 802).
