Bardos, Pyrénées-Atlantiques

Bardos (Basque Bardoze, formerly Bardotze, Gascon Bardos ) is a commune in the department of Pyrénées- Atlantiques in the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the district of Bayonne and the canton Bidache.

The village with 1621 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) is about 25 km east of Bayonne and is part of the Basque province of Labourd. Districts (the names are rarely used today ) are: Lassarrade, Miremont, Legarre, Lerine and Ibar. Neighboring municipalities are: Guiche in the north, judgment and Hasparren in the West, La Bastide- Clairence and Orègue in the south, the east and Bidache Hastingues in the Northeast.

History

The parish Bardos is first mentioned in 1072. Bardos was an existing since 1320 barony, which belonged to the Duchy of Gramont since 1643 before the revolution.
