Bart Gordon

Barton Jennings "Bart " Gordon ( born January 24, 1949 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party. He was from 1985 to 2011 member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Tennessee.

Biography

After visiting the Murfreesboro Central High School, he studied from 1967 to 1971 at the Middle Tennessee State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS ) from. A subsequent post-graduate studies at the College of Law of the University of Tennessee, he finished in 1973 with a Juris Doctor ( JD). In the meantime he made from 1971 to 1972 his military service in the U.S. Army and began in 1973 after the approval to work as a lawyer.

His political career began in 1979 as Gordon Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Tennessee, whose chairman he was then from 1981 to 1983.

In 1984 he was first elected to succeed Al Gore as a deputy to the U.S. House of Representatives and represented there by twelve subsequent re- elections until January 3, 2011 the sixth electoral district of Tennessee. From 2007 to 2011 Bart Gordon was chairman of the Committee on Science and Technology ( U.S. House Committee on Science and Technology). In addition, he was a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce ( House Committee on Energy and Commerce ). He also was a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, a financial and socio-politically moderate conservative set alliance of MPs from the Democratic Party.
