Barthélémy de Theux de Meylandt

Barthélémy Théodor Count de Theux de Meylandt ( born February 26, 1794 Castle Schabroek in Sint-Truiden, † August 21, 1874 at Castle Meylandt in Heusden ) was a Belgian politician and twice Prime Minister.

He studied at the University of Liege Law and worked as a lawyer. During the Belgian Revolution of 1830 he was a member of the National Congress, in 1831, first deputy of the Chamber of Deputies and in December of the same year Home Secretary. After the Cabinet had resigned in 1832, he became Prime Minister in 1834 itself and remained at the same time Minister of the Interior; later he took over the Foreign Ministry. After retiring in 1840 he was elevated to the rank of count. In 1846 he was again prime minister, but had to leave to resign on August 13, 1847 as a result of the victory of the liberal left in the elections and was until 1870 one of the leaders of the Catholic- clerical party in the second chamber.
