Basket cell

As the basket cell interneurons are referred to in the cerebellar cortex of vertebrates that are proximal to the Purkinje cell layer in the molecular layer. They have many features in common with the stellate cells of the cerebellum, the other interneurons of the molecular layer, but the lie further distally seen from the Purkinje cell layer.

Basket cells are innervated by parallel fibers glutamatergic. They possess both ionotropic (AMPA receptor and NMDA receptor ) and metabotropic glutamate receptors ( mGluR1 in particular ). Similar to the Purkinje cells gets repetitive ( salve -like ) Parallel fiber discharge in basket cells produced ( and stellate cells ) a slow mGluR1 -mediated postsynaptic potential.
