Basket Zaragoza 2002, also known as the sponsor name CAI Zaragoza, is a Spanish basketball club from the capital of Aragon Zaragoza. The first team plays in the Spanish ACB League. The home games will be held at the 10744 -seat Pabellón Príncipe Felipe.

History

The club Basket Zaragoza 2002 was founded in 2002 with the purpose to succeed of the venerable club CB Zaragoza, who from 1981 to 1996 in the First Division played and celebrated successes both nationally and internationally, but out due to financial problems the professional game mode withdrew.

Immediately after the company acquired the new club, which occurs just like its predecessor association with the sponsor name CAI Zaragoza, the license to the League Española de Baloncesto ( LEB), the Spanish second division, to compete. In a turbulent first season in 2002/ 03 the team escaped relegation only in the relegation play-off. As a result, it has established itself among the top of the second division, but failed four times in a row in Ascension Play-off. The 2007/08 season ended CAI Zaragoza as a master of LEB and so reached a long-awaited promotion to the ACB league. However, the first season in the top division joined the club from only on the 17th and penultimate rank and therefore had to go back. In 2009 /10, the team complete again the second division as champion, and thus started from 2010/ 11 in Liga ACB.

The first success in the first division managed the club 2012/13. CAI Zaragoza finished the regular season in 5th place, and sat down in the playoff for the championship in the quarter-finals 2-1 against Valencia Basket Club by. Only in the semi-finals the team was defeated future champion Real Madrid 0-3. CAI Zaragoza Thus, for the first time qualified for an international competition, the Eurocup 2013/14.
