The First Battle of Nola was fought in the same year as the Battle of Cannae, so in 216 BC between Hannibal's troops and legions of Marcellus.

Prehistory

On the return of the victorious Battle of Cannae Hannibal for him came with his army also to Nola. This was a city -level in the particularly large pantries to supply the Roman towns in the area. Perhaps out of necessity, but perhaps also from some arrogance in which they came to the great victory, the Carthaginians wanted to take this city.

Course

The clever from Rome Marcellus was now trying everything, not even to bring Rome defeat and his legionaries stationed on the ramparts of the city. When the first wave of attack came in the early afternoon, the Romans were due to the good design of the castle and the determination not to experience a second Cannae, consider the weary march from the Carthaginians. For particularly large number of casualties on both sides but there is no evidence.

Follow

Military or political implications had not this battle, Hannibal took the next few years two more tries (second and third Battle of Nola) to take the city by storm, but failed in two and then moved on without doing anything.
