Bavois is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Bavois is located 447 m above sea level. M., 5 km south-southeast of the town Orbe and 12 km southwest of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located on the southeastern edge of the Orbeebene, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​9.3 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Vaud Mittelland. The western part of the municipality is occupied by the intensively farmed southern Orbeebene. A remnant of the once great swamp is the Marais des Puits, the old peat bogs are protected. The western border is the Entrerocheskanal. To the east extends the municipality of soil over the slope of Bavois on the northern slopes of the plateau of Gros de Vaud and up into the deeply cut into the molasse valley of the river talent. Population

With 781 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Bavois one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. The population of Bavois amounted in 1850 to 492 residents in 1900 to 566 inhabitants. History

Bavois was since the 12th century seat of posts originating from France Lords of Joux. In 1263 they received Bavois by Savoy as seigniory back.
