BB&T Center (Sunrise, Florida)

The BB & T Center ( former names: Broward County Civic Arena, National Car Rental Center, Office Depot Center, Bank Atlantic Center ) is a multi-purpose arena in Sunrise, Florida, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale.

In 1998, the stadium was completed after two years of construction, the construction costs amounted to approximately 212 million U.S. dollars, which was paid almost entirely with public funds. The naming rights, which is the fourth time changed hands over the years include, since September 2012, the BB & T, a U.S. financial institution and investment company. The contract has a term of ten years.

Use

The capacity of the arena is 19,250 for hockey games, basketball games at 20 737. At concerts and other sporting events, depending on the stage orientation 15000-22500 spectators in the BB & T Center court. The Arena also offers 70 luxury suites and 2,300 loge seats.

Based on 1,500 m² of pure use area the arena is also another use as a venue for trade fairs, exhibitions and other events such as circus and ice shows.

In the past several concerts took place at the BB & T Center, including:

  • U2, 2001 ( start of the Elevation Tour )
  • Guns N 'Roses, October 24, 2006 ( the start of the Chinese Democracy Tour )
  • Barbra Streisand, October 30, 2006 ( headlines due to the fact that the singer was pelted by a visitor during the concert with a full cup)

In the season 2005/ 06, the arena was also the venue for the ABA All-Star Games.
