History

The recordings are from a performance by the band on August 1, 1964, " Civic Auditorium " in Sacramento ( California). However, the fans were so loud at this show ( and the recording technique yet so little developed ), that many of the recordings were not suitable (for example, Do not Back Down, Be True To Your School, Surfer Girl ) for a publication had to be and some others (especially I Get Around and Fun, Fun, Fun) reworked in the studio ( overdubbed ). I get around has even been re-recorded entirely in the studio and be backed only by the screech recorded through the fans. Only five songs on this LP are truly an original recording of this concert. The voice that announces the Beach Boys at the beginning, part of Fred Vail, who was then, in his later career as a concert promoter, in Sacramento worked as a disc jockey.

The album contains five original songs by the Beach Boys mostly cover versions. Most of them have never been used on a studio album by the Beach Boys.

The album was released in stereo, it was produced by Brian Wilson.
