Beauvène

Beauvène is a commune with 249 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in Ardèche, in the Rhône -Alpes. The inhabitants are called Beauvenais and Beauvenaises.

Geography

The municipality is located in the hills of the Cevennes in the valley of the river Talaron, a tributary of the Eyrieux, centrally located in the Ardèche. It is part of the Regional Natural Park of Monts d' Ardèche. Along the gentle slopes of farming is done. Neighboring municipalities are Gluiras and Saint- Julien- Labrousse. Next largest city is Guilherand -Granges in 29 kilometers to the northeast.

History

Was created in 1924, the municipality Beauvène, which was a part of the community Gluiras earlier. In the Middle Ages the family Tournay certain about the place, which was first mentioned in the 14th century. She built the eponymous castle above the town in the 15th century.

Culture and sights

Apart from the Château de Tournay there in Beauvène more famous buildings, especially the church in the Romanesque Revival style in the 19th century. The Pont de Chervil et de solid bâtisses is a fine example of rural architecture of past centuries, reflecting the former prosperity of the region. On the Place du Valla the senior officer Maximilien de Béthune planted several elms. In the hamlet Pranouvet there is an old temple

Nature lovers visit the community, especially for the canyons of the river Eyrieux to visit, the occasional bursts its banks in the spring. Therefore, it was specially built a dam which is to preserve the site from flooding. A nature trail takes tourists close to the history of the texturing. At the Rock of Tournay climbing sport is increasing.
