The Bega (Romanian also Bega, Bega Hungarian, Serbian Begej / Бегеј ), often Begakanal (Romanian Canalul Bega, Bega Hungarian - csatorna ) called, is a 254 kilometers long Romanian Serbian river or canal. It rises in the Banat Mountains and flows in Title in the Serbian province of Vojvodina in the Tisza, which in turn drains into the Danube. The lake is formed by the confluence of the rivers Bega Bega Luncanilor and Poieni. Largest city in the course of Bega is Timişoara. History

The construction of the Bega Canal was regarded as an outstanding achievement of his time and was under the leadership of Count Claudius Mercy Flori mouth ( 1666-1734 ). Before channeling the Bega offered in a wild, uncontrolled run the vast marshland in the west rich food. The derivation of the marshes appeared Mercy offered a strategic, economic, and last but not least the need for sanitary reasons. The canal was sludged and expanded over two years and since 2011 in parts of navigable again. A completion date for the work on the handling of freight transport is currently unknown. The total investment for the measures is 22 million euros. After completion of the work Timişoara will be so connected to the port on the Pan-European Corridor VII and with other ports of the North Sea to the Black Sea.

In Timisoara 14 bridges connect the right, northern bank to the left bank of the Bega.
