Ben Cayetano

Benjamin Jerome "Ben" Cayetano ( born November 14, 1939 in Honolulu, Hawaii) is an American politician. He was from 1994 to 2002, the fifth Governor of the U.S. state of Hawaii.

Career

Ben Cayetano was born in 1939 in Honolulu. He earned his bachelor's degree in politics in 1968 at the University of California at Los Angeles ( UCLA) in 1971 and his law degree from Loyola Law School. He served for more than two decades public office for which he was elected eight times. Cayetano was elected to the House of Representatives from Hawaii, where he remained from 1975 to 1978, and thereafter. In the Senate of Hawaii, where he served from 1979 to 1986 Subsequently, he held the post of Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii 1986-1994. He was then elected to the office of the governor of Hawaii, where he succeeded against the independent candidate Frank Fasi and the Republican Pat Saiki. He practiced his office after a re-election in 1998 of 2 December 1994 to 2nd of December 2002. He was also a former chairman of the Western Governors' Association.
