Ben Pimlott

Benjamin "Ben" John Pimlott ( born July 4, 1945 in London, † April 10, 2004 ) was a British historian who was especially known for his biography of Queen Elizabeth II.

Life

After attending Marlborough College, he studied at Worcester College, University of Oxford.

The mid-1970s he began his writing career as a writer of biographies of Hugh Dalton, Harold Wilson and Queen Elizabeth II, as well as textbooks for British politics and in particular the Labour Party. Among his most famous publications include:

  • Labour and the Left in the 1930 's ( 1977)
  • Hugh Dalton (1985 )
  • The Media in British Politics ( 1987)
  • Harold Wilson ( 1992)
  • The Queen, A Biography of Queen Elizabeth II ( 1996).

For the biography of the Labour politician and Chancellor of the Exchequer Hugh Dalton, he received the 1985 Whitbread Book Award for Best Biography.
