Benjamin is a city and the county seat ( county seat ) of Knox County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located in north-central Texas between the South Wichita River and the Brazos River on U.S. Highway 82, is located in the north about 80 miles from Oklahoma and has a total area of 2.7 km ², without significant water surface.

History

Hilory H. Bedford, president and majority owner of the Wichita and Brazos Stock Company founded in 1885, the city and named it after his son Benjamin Bedford. To promote the settlement of the place, he gave each of his 12 co-partner a piece of land. In 1884 the first post office was opened, with Bedford as postmaster and 1886, the city became the regional capital.
