1960 started Benoni Beheyt at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960; in the road race he finished ninth. In the same year he became Belgian champion in a two - team driving the amateurs, with Charles Rabaye. In 1962, he stepped over to the professionals.

Beheyt was mainly due to the duel with his fellow countryman Rik Van Looy during the UCI Road World Championships 1963 known before a home crowd in the Belgian Ronse, he decided in his favor. Actually, Van Looy should win the world title for the third time. When he noticed that Beheyt did not want to abide by the agreement, he drove waves to interfere Beheyt, whereupon he withdrew at Van Looys jersey and first crossed the finish line. Apparently the two of them never a word have subsequently spoken to each other.

Van Looy said to have used his influence in cycling circles to be difficult to make Beheyt life, so that it could not achieve the desired success. 1968 ended this his career.

His grandson is the racer Guillaume Van Keirsbulck who drives for the Quickstep Cycling Team since 2010.
