The Berlin Oranienburger Straße station is a situated in the Berlin district of Mitte tunnel railway station on the North-South S-Bahn. The S-Bahn station opened in 1936 was closed 1961-1990 and has since been approached again by the Berlin S-Bahn.

Location and construction

The station is located in a small double depth below Tucholskystraße at the height of the corner of Oranienburger Strasse. The original access is through two massive umwehrte stairways on either side of the Oranienburger Strasse, is made to the agent of a circular S-Bahn symbol. The symbol was introduced with the construction of the North-South S-Bahn. The additions lead to a common manifold floor, from where two flights of stairs leading to the platform. Connected to the distribution basement are several service rooms. Another approach towards the Tucholskystraße and an elevator installation at the north end of the platform have been retrofitted.

The platform is located in the central position and is supported by a row of columns einstieligen. Columns and platform structures are clad in line with the station name with orange, the side walls with yellow ceramic plates. The station names are shown in broken sans serif.

The design of the entire system by Richard Brademann. It is listed as a historic landmark in the Berlin state monument list.

History

The station was built in 1934-1936 and on May 28, 1936 together with the Stettin Station section - opens Unter den Linden. The S -Bahn came due to the war in April 1945 to a standstill. The subsequent demolition of the tunnel ceiling in the amount of the Landwehr Canal on 2 May 1945, as well as damage to the Spreeunterfahrung in the amount of the nearby Ebertbrücke the entire structure, including the S-Bahn station was full of water. The ensuing from the May 25, 1945 Abpumparbeiten and the subsequent repair of the tunnel continued until the end of 1947. On 16 November 1947, the regular passenger service was resumed.

As a result of the Wall, the station on 13 August 1961 has been closed to all public transport, the trains of the North-South S -Bahn drove with the exception of the Friedrichstrasse station at all by the way keep in East Berlin. The aboveground access was closed, partially built and the S -Bahn symbol removed.

After the Berlin Wall, the German Reichsbahn began with a makeshift repair of the station. The reopening took place one day after the currency reform on 2 July 1990 as the first station in the north-south route. In the same year, the DR decided to a fundamental reorganization of the tunnel, which brought the re- closure between the 2 April 1991 and 1 March 1992 itself. The S-Bahn station was renovated landmark status during this action.

In 2002, the station was supplemented by an elevator at the northern end of the platform. For fire protection reasons, the installation of an additional access began in 2010 to Tucholskystraße, this was opened in September 2011.

Traffic

The S-Bahn station is currently served by the lines S1, S2 and S25, the S- Bahn Berlin. On the surface, there is a transfer possibility to the tram lines M1 and M6 of the Berlin Transport Authority.
