Beryl F. Carroll

Beryl Franklin Carroll ( born March 15, 1860, Davis County, Iowa, † December 16, 1939 in Bloomfield, Iowa ) was an American politician ( Republican) and from 1909 to 1913 the 20th Governor of the state of Iowa.

Early years and political rise

Carroll visited in Kirksville, Missouri, until 1884, the State Normal School. After leaving school, he worked in various professions. Among other things, he was a cattle dealer, teacher and editor of the newspaper " Davis County Republican ." Between 1895 and 1898 he was a member of the Senate of Iowa. Later he headed 1898-1903, the post office in Bloomfield. Subsequently, he was Auditor (State Auditor ) in the Government of the State of Iowa.

Governor of Iowa

In 1908, Carroll was elected governor of his state. On 14 January 1909 he was introduced to his new office. After a re-election in 1910 he was able to stay in this position until January 16, 1913. During his tenure, a Board of Education was established in Iowa, the revised legislation for the mining industry and established a pension program for firefighters and police officers. In 1910 he gained great popularity when he entered a burning building to bring valuable items to safety.

After the end of his governorship to Carroll withdrew from politics. In the following years he worked in the life insurance industry. He died in December 1939 and was buried in Bloomfield. Beryl Carroll was married to Jennie Dodson, with whom he had two children.
