Berylliumbromid is the Berylliumsalz of hydrobromic acid.
Production
Berylliumbromid is produced by the action of gaseous bromine to a mixture of beryllium oxide and carbon at 1100 to 1200 ° C. In this case, carbon monoxide is free.
It can also be produced from the elements or of beryllium and elemental bromine at 500-700 ° C.
Also, the reaction of beryllium oxide and hydrogen bromide is possible.
Properties
Berylliumbromid is a very hygroscopic white powder, which crystallizes in the orthorhombic system. The lattice parameters a = 10.32 Å be, b = 5.52 Å and c = 5.54 Å. Its enthalpy of fusion is 9.80 kJ / mol. In the vapor phase, it exists as a dimer.
