Bešeňov

Bešeňov (Hungarian Zsitvabesenyő - to 1907 Besenyő ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 1682 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Nové Zámky, a circle of Nitriansky kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Danubian Lowland on the left bank of the Stara Žitava, an arm of the river Žitava. The territory is mostly covered by Au and black soils. Through the village, the main road runs 511 ( Bajč - Zlaté Moravce - Veľké Uherce ). The center is located at an altitude of 121 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Šurany and 15 kilometers away from Nové Zámky.

Neighboring municipalities are Dolny Ohaj in the north, Veľké Lovce in the east, in the southeast Branovo, Dvory nad Žitavou in the south, Nové Zámky in the southwest and the west Banov.

History

The population of the municipality dates back to the Neolithic.

The first written mention of the village dates back to 1075 (as Villa Hudwordiensium Bissenorum ) and is named after the Pechenegs, a Turkic tribe. At that time the village belonged to the Abbey of Hronský Beňadik, 1330 a portion was leased to the manor castle Ghymes, after the dissolution of the abbey in 1565 the village was entirely for Graner chapter. During the Ottoman wars it was for several years the Ottomans tribute. 1720 there were in place 34 taxpayers in 1828 were counted 143 houses and 1,005 inhabitants, who were mostly employed in agriculture and in particular vegetables.

Until 1919 part of which is in the county perch place the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia. On the basis of the First Vienna Award, he was 1938-1945 again in Hungary.

Population

According to the 2011 census lived in Bešeňov 1,695 inhabitants, of whom 1,205 Magyars, 467 Slovaks, Czechs, and two six Roma; a resident had a different ethnic group. 14 inhabitants did not know. 1,598 residents pleaded with the Roman Catholic Church, the Evangelical Church of the 16 residents, 15 residents to the Reformed Church, two residents for evangelistic church and each one population to the apostolic Church and Judaism. 24 residents were non-denominational and 38 inhabitants, the denomination is not determined.
