Bev Perdue
Beverly Eaves " Bev " Perdue ( born January 14, 1947 in Grundy, Virginia) is an American politician (Democratic Party). She was from 2009 to 2013 Governor of the State of North Carolina. She was the first woman who held the office.
Private life
Beverly Marlene Moore, daughter of Alfred P. and Irene Morefield Moore was born on 14 January 1947 in Grundy, Virginia. Her father was a miner who later became CEO. She received her bachelor's degree at the University of Kentucky. Later came a Master in Education (Education ), and a Ph. D. in Education Administration (Education Administration) from the University of Florida added. Afterwards she worked as a hospital administrator and consultant, before she went into politics.
Perdue lives currently in Chapel Hill. Previously, she was a long time in New Bern resident. She is married to Bob Eaves and has two grown sons, Garrett and Emmett, from a previous marriage.
Political career
Perdue held from 1986 to 1990 a seat in the House of Representatives from North Carolina and then from 1990 to 2000 a seat in the Senate of North Carolina. During her last three terms in the Senate, she was a state of the chief budget writer and the first woman ever held this office. During her tenure, the General Assembly increased teacher pay and passed Governor Hunt 's Excellent Schools the Act and Smart Start. She also led the debate on the creation of North Carolina's Clean Water Management Trust Fund.
Deputy Governor of North Carolina
In 2000, she ran for vice governor of North Carolina, defeated Republican Betsy Corchrane and became the first female deputy governor of the country. It was in 2004 re-elected for a second term. As Deputy Governor Perdue was wearing a crucial role in bringing about the tie -breaking vote, which led to the creation of the North Carolina Education Lottery.
Governor Election 2008
Perdue announced on 1 October 2007 in her hometown, New Bern, their candidature for the office of Governor of North Carolina.
