Biathlon World Championships 1984

The first Biathlon World Championships women found in 1984 in Chamonix, France. In the same year the Winter Olympics were held in Sarajevo, which is why no world champions were determined in men. The public interest in women's biathlon was still very low at this time.

Both individual and sprint race was won by the Soviet biathlete Wenera Chernyshova. In addition, it has been successful with the Soviet relay and won three gold medals for most successful athlete. In the sprint race, the Austrian Andrea Grossegger won the first and hitherto only World Cup medal of an Austrian biathlete. German athletes were at these World Championships not at the start.
