Bidoon (stateless)

Bidun (Arabic: بدون, DMG Bidun, also Bidoun, Bidoon, Bedun ) are stateless people in the Arab world. The word derives from the Arabic Bidun dschinsiyya (Arabic: بدون جنسية, stateless ') ago. The concept of how the phenomenon is to be found mainly in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, as well as in Bahrain

Although many of the Bedun are also ethnic Bedouins, the two terms are clearly distinct.

The first Bedun were Arabs who were not able due to illiteracy, Wohnsitzlosigkeit, poverty and lack of access to authorities, to be registered as a citizen before 1920. The unsecured borders of Kuwait, have also contributed to the statelessness of some immigrants. The Bedunstatus is inherited, they can afford neither military service nor acquire property. In the United Arab Emirates, where they make up a quarter of the population, they can not buy a license, do not go to school, not a civil marriage and to enter into no health insurance.

Protests of Bidun played a role during the Arab Spring.
