Big Buck Bunny

Big Buck Bunny is a computer-generated short film that was made ​​mainly using free software, in particular the 3D graphics software Blender.

Action

Background

On June 10, 2007 Ton Roosendaal announced a sequel to the first project of the Blender Foundation from 2006 - Elephants Dream - to. In August 2007, a production team with eight members from seven countries came together in Amsterdam Blender Institute. This studio was established by the Blender Foundation, to facilitate the creation of free movies and games.

Code-named Peach began work in October 2007. Apart from the actual film, there were also improvements in the software used Blender as facilities for the presentation of fur, trees and volumetric light as well as some bug fixes. After the premiere of the film on 10 April 2008 in Amsterdam and dispatch of pre-ordered DVDs from the 20th of May, he was released on 30 May 2008 on the Internet.

The film was financed by the Blender Foundation, donations from the Blender community, the presale of the DVD of the film and commercial sponsors. On the basis of the film, a computer game called Yo Frankie or code names Apricot was created in Blender Institute.

Another short film by the Blender Foundation, Sintel name was also produced by Ton Roosendaal, and released on October 1, 2010.
