Bil Keane

William " Bil" Keane ( born October 5, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † November 8, 2011 in Paradise Valley, Arizona) was an American cartoonist.

Life

Bil Keane drew even in his time with the U.S. Army, during which he was stationed during the Second World War in Australia. Back home, he was responsible for the first daily newspaper comic strips, Silly Philly and later the Cartoon Channel Chuckles. 1959 the family moved to Paradise Valley Keane. His cartoon series The Family Circus appeared in 1960 for the first time. The humorous, always held in a circular edge cartoons, deal with a family of four children, with Keane 's own family took as a model. The series, which was published in more than a thousand newspapers, is among the most famous cartoons of the United States.

From 1981 to 1983, Keane president of the National Cartoonists Society. He was the father of four sons and one daughter. His son Glen Keane is known as a cartoon animator.
