Bill Yoast

William Bill Yoast (* 1924) is an American high school football coach of the football team at TC Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia. In this capacity he was depicted in the movie Remember the Titans in 2000 by the actor Will Patton.

Life

Yoast grew up in Alabama in Florence. After three years, the United States Air Force party, he went to the Georgia Military College and later at the Mercer University. There he was a member of the fraternity Sigma Nu. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education. Later he acquired also the master at George Peabody College.

After his high school and college years as a football player, he decided to become football coach. He worked in Sparta, Roswell, Georgia, finally in Alexandria, Virginia. There he spent several decades and was very successful.

In 1990, he withdrew. He has four daughters and seven grandchildren. His daughter Sheryl assisted her father during his coaching time. She died in 1996 from heart disease at the age of 34 years.

Biography and film

Yoast wrote about his experience as a football coach, the book Remember This Titan. The fact described the 1971 season at the T.C. Williams High School became the screenplay basis of the film Remember the Titans from 2000. According to the court- induced introduction of multiracial schools in the United States, 1971, the previously separate football teams were merged. Yoast, formerly coach of the team in high school, worked as an assistant to the head coach Herman Boone new black. The team completed the season dominated and won the state title and second place in the national standings.
