Herman Boone

Herman Boone ( born October 28, 1935 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina ) is an American former American football player and coach at TC Williams High School.

Life

Herman Boone is the son of an African American farmer and a Cherokee Indian. In 1954 he studied at the North Carolina Central University ( NCCU ) and later coached successful high school American football teams in Virginia and North Carolina. For financial reasons in 1971 two high schools were merged in Alexandria. With the desegregation of the newly formed TC Williams High School were also merged the football teams. Herman Boone was appointed to the post of Head Coaches for political reasons, leading to tensions with the white coach Bill Yoast (* 1924) led, who had to stand behind Boone. The athlete initially refused any cooperation. Regardless of skin color, with iron discipline Boone led his team still to success and was nationally to a role model. The incident and the integration of the football team were the subject of the U.S. film " Remember the Titans " starring Denzel Washington.

Herman Boone now lives with his wife Carol in Alexandria, from the marriage came three daughters, Sharron, Donna and Monica forth. With Bill Yoast him a deep friendship.
