Billy Williams (singer)

Billy Williams ( born December 28, 1910 in Waco, Texas, † October 17, 1972 in Chicago) was an American singer, who in 1957 had great success with the cover version of Fats Waller I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter had. The hallmark of his songs was a brief " Oh, Yeah " at the end of the song text.

Career

As a singer, he was the frontman of The Charioteers from 1930 to 1950 until he formed his own band Billy Williams Quartet founded by Eugene Dixon, Claude Riddick and John ball Some TV appearances followed, especially in Your Show of Shows with Sid Caesar.

Beginning of the 1960s he lost his voice due to a diabetes disease. He then moved to Chicago and worked until his death as a social worker.
