The community Birštonas ( Birštono savivaldybė ) is one of the so-called genuine self-government communities ( Nauja Savivaldybė ) in Lithuania without additional designation, so not even the " health resort communities ." With 124 km ² and 5256 inhabitants, the municipality includes 49 villages still without the city Birštonas. The Pociunai airport ( at Prienai ) is known for his flight tourism. Here they can, inter alia, Ballooning, skydiving and gliding. The honey harvested from beekeepers in the district will be transformed in the village Stakliškės ( about 15 min drive from Birštonas ) for " Lithuanian mead " ( midus ).
