Bishop Auckland

Bishop Auckland is a town in County Durham in North East England. It is located 19 km northwest of Darlington on the River Wear. Bishop Auckland has 24 392 inhabitants ( 2001). Bishop Auckland was the seat of the Bishop of Durham, hence the city got its first name part. The first mention of the village dates from the year 1020, as Knut the Great, Bishop Auckland gave the Bishop of Durham.
