Bister, Switzerland

Bister is a Munizipalgemeinde ( municipality ) on the south side of the Rotten (Rhone) in the district of East Raron the canton of Valais, Switzerland.

Population

The end of 2010 the congregation had 33 inhabitants. It is thus the fifth smallest municipality in Switzerland. The greatest part of the inhabitants form farmers, teachers or retirees.

Geography

Bister lies in the upper Valais on the south side of the valley. The Rhone forms the northern boundary of the parish, which consists of the village and the hamlets Bänna Bister, Chrizacher and egga and some alpine meadows. Neighboring municipalities are Grengiols in the east, the south and terms Morel fillet in the west and north. Bister lies at the edge of the proposed Regional Natural Park Binn.
