Bob Godfrey

Robert John "Bob" Godfrey ( MBE, born January 27, 1921 in Maitland, New South Wales, Australia, † February 21, 2013 ) was a British animator, film producer and director.

Life

Bob Godfrey was born to British parents in Australia, where they had emigrated to the end of the First World War. Shortly thereafter, the family returned to England. He grew up in Ilford, Essex, where he attended school. In 1941 he joined the Royal Marines, where he served until shortly after the end of World War II. In 1947 he married and got a job at David Hand, a former employee of Walt Disney; however, he was released shortly afterwards.

He received the late 1940s, employment in the animation studio Larkins and worked there for several years as a draftsman. He then founded together with some colleagues the production company Biographic where emerged in the 1950s and until the mid- 1960s, mainly commercials. In 1964, he founded Bob Godfrey 's Movie Emporium and produced alongside cartoons and real short films. For the animated short film Henry 9 ' til 5 in 1971 he received his first British film award. Two years later, he was first nominated for Kama Sutra Rides Again for an Oscar. In 1976 he was awarded the Oscar for best animated short film for Great. 1980 and 1994 respectively, he received another Oscar nomination and his second BAFTA Award in 1984.

In 1986 he was nominated for his contributions to the film industry to the MBE. His cousin is the author and screenwriter ACH Smith.
