Bola Ajibola
Abdul- Jabbar Ajibola Bolasodun Adesumbo KBE ( born March 22, 1934 in Abeokuta ) is a Nigerian lawyer. He worked from 1985 to 1991 as Attorney General and Minister of Justice in his home country as well as from 1991 to 1994 as a judge of the International Court of Justice. He is also president and founder of the resulting 1996 Islamic Movement of Africa.
Life
Bola Ajibola was born in 1934 in Abeokuta and, after studying law, he graduated from 1959 to 1962 at the University of London, on November 27, 1962 his license to practice law. In the years 1984/1985 he was president of the Nigerian Bar Association. From September 1985 to December 1991, he served as Attorney General and Minister of Justice of Nigeria.
In addition, Bola Ajibola belonged to 1986-1991 of the International Law Commission of the United Nations (UN). On 5 December 1991 he was elected by the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly as a judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. He followed this Taslim Olawale Elias his compatriot, who died in August of the same year in office. His choice corresponded to the traditions of the court to select a successor from the same country at the death of a judge. He worked at the court until the end of the regular term of office of Elias in February 1994 and in the following years several times as an ad hoc judge. From 1994 to 2005 he also served on the Administrative Tribunal of the World Bank, including in the years 2004/2005 as its president.
He is also a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague and various other institutions in the field of international arbitration. From 1997 to 2002 he served as one of three foreign judges to the newly constituted Constitutional Court of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In 2005, Bola Ajibola founded the Crescent University ( " Crescent University " ) in Abeokuta. Two years later he was one of the 138 signatories of the open letter A Common Word Between Us and You, the personalities of Islam to "leaders of Christian churches everywhere" sent.
Bola Ajibola is married and father of three sons and two daughters since 1961.
Awards
Bola Ajibola since 1989 Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire and was awarded an honorary doctorate of Usmanu Danfodio University in Sokoto (2003) and the University of Agriculture in Abeokuta. In addition, he was an Honorary Bencher ( an appointed senior member) appointed by the Bar Association of Lincoln 's Inn, as well as in his home country to Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR ).
