Bolokhovo

Bolochowo (Russian Болохово ) is a town in Tula Oblast (Russia) with 9622 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 20 km southeast of Tula Oblasthauptstadt on the river Olen, between the Upa and its right tributary shadow in the river system of the Volga.

History

One of the royal family Bolchowski belonging village on site of the present city has been known since about 1580. In the 19th century, the name was in use Bolochowka.

In 1934, opened one of the largest mines of the Moscow lignite basin near and named after the village Bolochowski. The associated mining village in the same year received the status of an urban-type settlement and 1943 the municipal law under the present name.

Economy and infrastructure

After the cessation of coal mining in the 1990s, there is still a machine factory in Bolochowo ( Gefest AG; equipment for the food industry and the rail vehicle ), a plastic and a furniture factory and a plant for building metal structures.

The town lies on the railway line opened in 1874 Wjasma Tula Uslowaja - Ryazhsk ( station name Prissady; kilometer 315).
