Bonita is an American city in San Diego County in the U.S. state of California. It has about 12,900 inhabitants ( as of 2004). The city is located at the geographic coordinates 32.67 ° N, 117.03 ° West. The metropolitan area has a size of 13.2 km ² and is located on the California State Route 54

After the Sweetwater Dam was built in 1888, a settlement developed on the territory of today's Bonita.
