Borzonasca

Borzonasca ( Ligurian Borsonasca or Borzonasca ) is an Italian commune in the province of Genoa with 2108 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

The municipality is located in the high valley at the confluence of the streams Sturla Sturla and Penna. The distance to the Ligurian capital Genoa is approximately 61 km.

The territory of Borzonasca divided into eleven districts: Acero, Brizzolara, Belpiano, Bertigaro, Caregli, Giaiette, Levaggi, Montemoggio, Borzone, Temossi and Sopralacroce; added the settlements Barca di Gazzolo, Belvedere, Bevere, Campori, Campori Basso, Castagnello, Montemozzo, Perlezzi, Recroso, Stibiveri, Valle Piana, Zanoni and Zolezzi. The district Giaiette is an exclave in the valley taro.

Borzonasca belongs to the Comunità Montana Valli aveto, Graveglia e Sturla and also lies with its territory in the Parco naturale regional dell'Aveto.

Near the municipality is the artificial lake Giacopiane, which was formed by the damming of the creek Calandrino. The reservoir now serves the energy. Through a variety of trails, some peaks of the Ligurian Apennines, such as the Monte Penna (1735 meters), Monte Aiona ( 1701 meters) and Mount Agugiaia can be reached ( 1090 meters).

History

Borzonasca was in the past, due to its location at the intersection of two trade routes have been ( the trade route along the Ligurian coast and the connection in the north- eastern hinterland ), is of great importance. The ruins of several forts and castles (for the most part by the Counts of Lavagna, the Fieschi built, which controlled the region during the Renaissance ) are evidence also of its strategic importance.

On the nearby Boccopass it came in 1746 to the decisive victory of the Genoese - French army of the Austrian troops, who thus lost control of the region.

After the Congress of Vienna in 1814 Borzonasca, like all other towns of Liguria also came in 1815 under the administrative rule of the Kingdom of Sardinia, and resulted in 1861 in the Kingdom of Italy.
