Geography

Geographical location

The integrated municipality located in the lowland, and in Wümme foothills of Achim- Verden Geest. Both form part of the natural ecosystem areas Stader Geest. The member communities are located in a natural sandy heathland, woodland and heath region between the rivers Rodau and Wiedau, tributaries of the Wümme.

History

The region today Samtgemeinde Bothel was originally, mainly because of the unfavorable for agriculture Geest location, very poor. Many residents had to work abroad, for example in the Netherlands. 1906 a railroad was built from Bremerhaven to Hannover ( railway Bremervörde Walsrode ), which ran along between the towns Brockel and Bothel and was decommissioned in 1958. 1963, the section between Brockel and Wittorf was removed, now located on this stretch a cycle. The degradation of the remaining distance of Brockel to Rotenburg was 2009. 1928 the railroad came Rotenburg ( Wümme ) Verden ( Aller) added by Westerwalsede. Culture and sights

Worth the Dutch windmill are in the district Brockel, there and in Kirchwalsede are the old village churches. Between Hemsbünde, Kirchwalsede and the administrative center Bothel are the Bull lakes.

Economy and infrastructure

Economy

In the Samtgemeinde Bothel there are several wood processing industries, a large operation for body and food processing industry. In Brockel wooden toy is made ( Sievers ). In addition, the area destination for short breaks, cyclists and water sports enthusiasts, which here several lakes ( Bull Lake ) and smaller rivers is available as paddle area available.
