Description

The Brazilian Shorthair is a lively, medium-sized cat. The breed can be distinguished from the American Shorthair by their sleek and elegant appearance. However, it is not as thin as the Siamese. The legs are of medium length, slightly rounded paws. The head is a moderate wedge is longer than it is wide. The profile is slightly concave. The chin is firm. The coat is short, close-fitting, has a silky texture and no undercoat. There are many colors and drawings allowed except for Points. The eyes are about 1.5 times as far apart as they are wide. The ears are large, higher than its width, placed high on the head and have ear tufts.

Origin

The origin of the breed can be traced back to the streets of Brazil. Since they the street cat to cat breed was approved by the, it has changed dramatically. She is not the first breed that has evolved from a street cat as American Shorthair or European Shorthair show. The Brazilian Shorthair originated from an experiment. Brazil had cats that were different from other cats in the world. However, all Brazilian street cats had a common appearance and same features. Today, there are still a few breeders of Brazilian Shorthair. The breeding with random street cats is considered by animal rights activists and professional cat breeders as a concern. The Brazilian Shorthair is, however, currently considered purebred cat. In the United States there are the largest population of Brazilian Shorthair and their breeders.
