Brent Symonette

Theodore Brent Symonette ( born December 2, 1954 in Nassau ( Bahamas) ) is a politician from the Bahamas.

Biography

Symonette graduated after attending the St. Andrew 's School in Nassau studying law at the Leys School, University of Cambridge and Brunel University in Uxbridge and was after admission as a lawyer ( Barrister -at -Law) worked. He was also a founder of a real estate brokerage.

His political career began in 1987 when he was appointed on the proposal of the opposition leader of his party, the Free National Movement, Cecil Wallace Whitfiel a member of the Senate. He was re- nominated by his party colleague, Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham senator and then appointed by the Governor-General Sir Clifford Darling 1992.

In the earlier governments of Prime Minister Ingraham he was between August 1992 and May 2002, including Attorney General, Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Nassau International Airport Authority. As chairman of the Hotel Corporation of the Bahamas, he was also instrumental in the negotiations that ultimately led to the construction of the Atlantis Hotel as well as related resorts.

2002 was chosen as representative of the FNM MP for the meeting-house, where he has represented the constituency of St Anne's. , Making it one of the few white members of Parliament.

After the victory of the FNM in the elections of May 2007, he was appointed on 4 May 2007 the new Prime Minister Ingraham Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Immigration. He is also Deputy Chairman of the FNM.

After the defeat of the FNM in the elections of 7 May 2012, he lost his government offices. His successor as foreign minister was Fred Mitchell of the Progressive Liberal Party.

Brent Symonette is the youngest son of the future Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Roland Symonette, and half- brother of the former Speaker (Speaker ) of the House of Assembly, Robert Symonette.
