Brison-Saint-Innocent

Brison -Saint- Innocent is a town in the French department of Savoie in the Rhone -Alpes.

Geography

Brison -Saint- Innocent lies on 288 m above sea level. M., near Aix -les- Bains, about 18 kilometers north of the town of Chambery (air line). The village is located in the foothills of the Alps, on a peninsula just above the east bank of the Lac du Bourget, at the foot of Mont de Corsuet.

The area of ​​8.75 square kilometers of the communal territory (without Seeanteil ) includes a section on the eastern shore of the Lac du Bourget. The lake shore is here divided into the peninsula of Brison -Saint- Innocent, the north then Baie de Gresine and the promontory of Brison (near the northern border of the area ). In the Peninsula, the lake shore is relatively flat, while the steep and rocky riverside areas are found in the northern part. From the shores of the lake community area extends eastward across a steep, mostly wooded and traversed by various striking rock walls slope down to the elongated ridge of Mont de Corsuet which forms geologically the southernmost foothills of the anticline of the Montagne du Gros Foug. The village is characterized by an exceptionally mild climate as it lies on a sun-exposed peninsula and is protected by the mountains of the Mont de Corsuet of the cool respectively cold north and east winds. It is also named Nice savoyarde ( Savoyard Nice).

Brison -Saint- Innocent consists of the districts Brison, Saint- Innocent and Gresine ( on the bay ). Neighboring communities of Brison -Saint- Innocent are Saint- Germain- la- Chambotte in the north, La Biolle and Grésy -sur -Aix in the east, Aix -les- Bains in the south and La Chapelle -du -Mont -du- Chat and Saint- Pierre -de- Curtille in the West.

History

The territory of Brison -Saint- Innocent was settled very early. On the lake shore in the Baie de Gresine remains of a Bronze Age settlement were found. Also from the Roman period traces remain. The town of Saint- Innocent is first documented in the early 12th century. In Saint- Innocent probably late 11th century a priory was founded, which was incorporated in the 15th century with the monastery Hautecombe ( across the lake ). 1792 were merged to today's double municipality Brison -Saint- Innocent Brison -les- Oliviers and Saint- Innocent.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint- Innocent dates from the 13th century and remodeled in the 19th century. It stands on the site of a Roman temple, which was dedicated to Mars. In the late 11th century, the chapel of Brison goes back. Also from the 11th century origin of the oldest parts of the castle of Saint- Innocent, while the residential buildings were built mostly in the 16th century.

Population

With 2164 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Brison -Saint- Innocent is one of the medium-sized towns in the Savoie département. Since the early 1960s, a substantial population increase was recorded thanks to the attractive residential area. The settlement area of Brison -Saint- Innocent has grown together today almost completely with that of Aix -les- Bains.

Economy and infrastructure

The nearest links to the A41 motorway is located at a distance of about six kilometers. In Brison -Saint- Innocent was a station on the railway line Culoz - Modane.
