Brodzany

Brodzany ( until 1948 slovak " Broďany "; Hungarian Brogyán ) is a municipality in the west - central Slovakia with 805 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011), which belongs to Okres Partizánske, a part of the Trenčín Region.

Geography

The municipality is located in the northern Danube hills below the Tribeč Mountains, on the left bank side of Nitra. The center is located at an altitude of 192 m nm and is three kilometers from Partizánske and 17 kilometers away from Topoľčany.

History

In today's municipal area was a settlement since Neolithic times, and there examined prehistoric culture was named Brodzany - Nitra.

The town was first mentioned in 1293 as Brogen writing and derives its name from the Slavic word brod ( = ford ).

From 1976 to 1992 Brodzany was a district of Partizánske.
