Brotte-lès-Ray

Brotte -lès- Ray is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Brotte -lès- Ray is located at an altitude of 210 m above sea level, 7 km northeast of Dampierre- sur-Salon and about 47 km northwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the west of the department, in the northwest of the plateau landscape Saônetals, on the eastern edge of the valley of the Vannon.

The area of ​​5.06 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau north of the Saônetals. From north to south the area is crossed by the Talniederung of Vannon that draws numerous meanders and provides drainage to the Saône. The flood plain is on average 205 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. The valley is flanked on both sides by a plateau, which reaches an average height of 230 m. This plateau consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic period. The plateau is divided by various depressions that open up to the valley of the Vannon. In the Talniederung and on the plateau dominates agricultural use, but there are larger areas of forest, particularly in the town limits. In the west of the municipality extends to the bottom of the expanded forest area of the Forêt de Dampierre ( to 245 m). To the east the area extends into the grove of the Grand Poix. With 249 m find the highest mountains of Brotte -lès- Ray is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Brotte -lès- Ray are Volon and Lavoncourt in the north, Tincey -et- Pontrebeau in the east, and Membrey Vaite in the south and Roche- et- Raucourt in the West.

History

Brotte is mentioned as Brathes and Brattes. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local rule had always been held by the Lords of Ray. The place was looted and burned in 1569 by troops of the Duke of Zweibrücken. Together with the Franche -Comté Brotte came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Brotte -lès- Ray is a member of the 42 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes des Quatre Rivières.

Attractions

The Chapel of Brotte -lès- Ray was built in the 16th century in the Gothic Flamboyant style, where the tower was added to the end of the 18th century only in the context of a restoration. In-room amenities include significant statues and sculptures from the 16th to the 18th century and the altar from the 18th century. Also worth seeing is the Lavoir of 1844 with its arcades arch, which once served as a laundry and watering cattle. About the Vannon performs a stone bridge dating from the late 18th century.

Population

With 69 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Brotte -lès- Ray is one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. During the 20th century, the population increased by a total clear from (1886 were still 151 persons counted ).

Economy and infrastructure

Brotte -lès- Ray is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. A mill on the Vannon was converted into a sawmill, but their business in 1965 was established. Outside of the primary sector, there are very few jobs in town. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Membrey to La Roche- Morey. Further road links exist with Roche- et- Raucourt and Tincey.
