Bruno Meissner

Bruno Meissner ( Bruno Meissner, born April 25, 1868 in Graudenz, † March 13, 1947 in Zeuthen ) was a German Assyriologist and Near Eastern archaeologist.

Bruno Meissner taught from 1904 to 1921 as a professor at the University of Breslau. In 1921 he was called to Berlin to full professor of Assyriology and Semitic Studies. Meissner was primarily a philologist, but also focused on other areas, such as history, legal studies and Near Eastern Archaeology. His main work is the 1920 and 1925 published in two volumes in Babylonia and Assyria, which gave a value based on cuneiform sources insight into the ancient Near Eastern cultural history. In the field of archeology, the writing was studies Bît Hilani in the north palace at Nineveh Assurbanaplis, which he wrote with Dietrich Opitz, his most important work. In addition, he initiated the Lexicon of Assyriology and was one of the early editors of the project. Wolfram von Soden's Akkadian Concise Dictionary is based in large part on the estate Meissner. In addition to the ancient Near East was Meissner's interest especially botany.
