Buchkirchen

Buchkirchen is a market town in Upper Austria in the district of Wels-Land in Hausruckviertel with 3996 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

The competent jurisdiction is catfish.

Geography

Buchkirchen is located on 346 m altitude in Hausruckviertel. The expansion is 8.9 kilometers from north to south and from west to east 6.2 km. The total area is 32.1 km ². 10.9 % of the area is forested and 76.9 % of the area is used for agriculture.

History

Buchkirchen was first in 1179 as " Puechchirichen " in a document of Pope Alexander III. mentioned for Kremsmuenster. The place name is most commonly interpreted as a " church in a beech forest ."

In 985, Bishop Pilgrim of Passau held in Mistelbach from a synod. The church and parish relationships were regulated and redefined parish boundaries.

Coat of arms

Official Description of 1978 conferred municipality coat of arms: Azure, two silver, growing out of the sign foot, outwardly inclined beech leaves, about the golden crook of a bishop's staff. The municipality colors are blue and white - blue.

The crosier is reminiscent of the convened to 985/991 by Bishop Pilgrim of Passau on the reorganization of ecclesiastical Zehentrechte in the former Traungau Synod of Mistelbach. The two beech leaves to speak for the community name.

Culture and sights

  • The parish churches book is dedicated to St. James; Late Gothic core of the building, which was in 1660 in Baroque style. The two side altarpieces Crucifixion with Mary, John and Mary Magdalene and Jesus' baptism were called in 1798 by Martin Johann Schmidt, Kremser Schmidt, painted.
  • Vicarage: The construction of the parsonage was begun in 1600 and priest P. Jacob Wood ( 1639-1671 ) completed in early Baroque style. 2001, the renovation of the parsonage was completed.
  • The branch church Mistelbach was built in 1694, in the church there are high altar paintings by Martin Johann Schmidt ( Kremser Schmidt)
