Budkovce

Budkovce (Slovak until the 19th century " Butkovce "; Hungarian Butka ) is a town in eastern Slovakia, with 1510 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). Administratively it belongs to the Okres Michalovce, which is a part of the district Košice kraj.

Geography

The municipality is located in the heart of the East Slovakian lowland near the river Duša. Further to the east flows the Laborec. Budkovce is 16 kilometers away from Michalovce.

Administratively divided the community into the church and parts Budkovce Dolny les.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1314 as Bwtka writing. Budkovce was the seat of the local family Buttkay who owned the place and built there a castle that was destroyed again in the 15th century. From the 14th to the 19th century the town developed as a small town, dominated in the agriculture and crafts. Since the 16th century it changed his squires. 1828 the community had 168 houses and 1,275 inhabitants.

Until 1919 part of which is in the county Semplin place the Kingdom of Hungary and was then Czechoslovakia.

The sights, the country palace of Buttkay family from 1617 as well as the Roman Catholic Church of the Trinity, originally dating from the 14th century.
