Origin

The section between Chemnitz and Stollberg 1823 expanded into highway.

The National Highway 169 between Cottbus and New salt was introduced around 1937. During the GDR it was designated as Highway 169 (abbreviated F 169).

Extension

Saxony

Currently the expansion of B169 in Section II takes place in the Riesa / chub. The expansion takes place from the junction of the B 6 in Seerhausen until completed four-lane part in Riesa 169n as B. The opening to traffic on 24 September 2012., The European Regional Development Fund contributed € 20 million to the cost.

The further expansion to take place until the junction A 14 chub North loud Saxon State Government. The project in particular is used to produce an efficient road link between the city of Riesa and the Federal Highway 14 north of chub. Brandenburg

At present, the partial three-lane expansion of the B 169 between the highway junction Ruhland and Plessa to dual carriageway in planning. The 14.5 km long with several new bridges is based on current knowledge in two sections from 2017/2018Vorlage: Future / done in 4 years. The B 169 is between Cottbus and the Elbe -Elster district represents a nationally important east -west route and has the country's south, a high share of the traffic.

The regional planning procedure (ROV ) for the OU Elsterwerda in the field of B 169 was opened on 4 January 2010.

The estimated construction costs currently amount to 32.5 million euros.

The B169 runs as a route of Lower Lusatia across the entire Lower Lusatia. About 30 km of the 257 km total length are expanded four lanes. Some of the federal road runs 169 with other federal roads on a route, such as the B 96

The Erzgebirge folk-rock singer and songwriter Stefan Gerlach devoted the road leading through the origin Stützengrün, the song " De 169 " (published in 1994).
