The Federal Highway 28 ( Abbreviation: B 28 ) runs mostly through Baden- Württemberg, of Kehl on the French border to Ulm in Bavaria and will end on the A 7

History

Origin

The first road between Oppenau and Freudenstadt was 1742/43 and carried over the Roßbühl.

As a first stretch in Württemberg, the highway between Reutlingen and Tübingen has been expanded in 1787 to a highway. As of 1805, the remaining sections were expanded to form a continuous street art. The road between Herrenberg and Tübingen was 1806.

After the takeover of the upper Renchtal by the Grand Duchy of Baden today's route of Oppenau about Peterstal by Griesbach was built in the years 1806-1813.

Earlier routes and designations

The list of highways in Baden July 1, 1901 divides the current federal highway 28 in two different sections:

  • The old road between Strasbourg and Freudenstadt, which led across the Roßbühl from Oppenau, was designated as the Baden State Road No. 25.
  • The upper Renchtalstraße between Oppenau and Kniebis, which corresponds to the present state road 28, was referred to as the Baden State Road 26.

Today's federal highway 28 was before 1932 different numbers:

With the introduction of the numbering system for roads in Germany in 1932, the route highway 28 ( BSS 28) has been called. Since the establishment of the kingdom of road network (1934 ) it was designated National Highway 28 ( R 28). During the German occupation of Alsace (1940-1944), the R 28 was extended from Strasbourg to Saarbrucken. Even after the connection of the Saarland to the Federal Republic of Germany in 1957 existed in the Mainzer Strasse in Saarbrücken, the yellow signs with the number 28 Today, this road is part of the federal highway 51

Substitutions

  • From 1967, the federal highway 28 was built between Reutlingen and Tübingen to an expressway.
  • Also, the section between Kehl and Appenweier ( motorway junction ) was upgraded to a freeway
  • In Tübingen in 1979 changed by the construction of four-lane Schlossberg tunnel in the inner city over the B 28 there since then travels around the city center to the west and south.
  • From Tübingen direction Rottenburg, there is a 2 km long four-lane section, which is marked as B 28n.

Murder of Matthias Erzberger

On August 26, 1921, the former Finance Minister Matthias Erzberger was murdered by members of the right-wing Organisation Consul near the present B 28. In a bend of the B 28 between Bad Griesbach and Freudenstadt a memorial stone at this bloody deed. It bears the simple inscription:

Special

On the route between city and highway border Ulm Hittistetten the four-lane trunk road is posted as a motorway. The 15 km route was planned as part of the federal highway 80, which should extend from Germersheim via Stuttgart and Ulm motorway Hittistetten. Running as a motorway has now been discarded.
