Bürchen

Bürchen ( Valais German: Birchu ) is a municipality in the district west Raron in the German-speaking part of the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

Geography

Bürchen lies on a western facing plateau above Visp / Raron. The spatial boundary extends from Turtig in the valley to 640 m. to Violengrat 2810 m. In the south and east of the villages of Visp, Zeneggen and Toerbel adjoin, from the west and north there are Raron and Unterbaech. The community area is 13.41 km2, with only 5.4 % is used as a settlement area. 55.3 % is forested and 25.7 % is used for agriculture.

The site of Bürchen is characterized by its typical scattered settlement character with many different hamlets.

To Bürchen has a ski area, which is connected with that of the community Toerbel.
