Byans-sur-Doubs

Byans -sur -Doubs is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Byans -sur -Doubs is 292 m, 2 km north- west of Quingey and about 18 km southwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on the western edge of the Jura Mountains, south of the Doubstals in a depression at the northern foot of the ridge Côte de Moini.

The area of ​​9.91 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, at an average of 270 m above sea level. M. lies. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also shows some of larger forest areas. The area is drained by the village stream north to the Doubs. A 40 m high terrain level passes over the north to the wide Talniederung of the Doubs. Along the river, which here reaches out in a large arc to the south, extending the northern boundary. To the south of the municipality floor extends to the wooded western foothills of the Jura. With up to 522 m is reached on the Côte de Moini, a ridge between the valleys of the Doubs and Loue, the highest elevation of Byans -sur- Doubs.

Neighboring communities of Byans -sur -Doubs are Osselle and Abban's lingerie in the north, Abban -Dessus in the east, Quingey, Lombard and Liesle in the south and Fourg and Villars -Saint -Georges in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Byans belonged to the dominion of Abban -Dessus. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. To avoid confusion with the town of Goux -les- Usiers, Byans was officially renamed in 1922 in Byans -sur- Doubs.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Désiré in 1780, built on the site of a medieval house of God, with the Romanesque bell tower was included (around 1200). The Château de Byans dates from the 18th century.

Population

With 549 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Byans -sur -Doubs is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 606 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the early 1960s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Byans -sur -Doubs was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
