Caála

Province

Caála is a town located in the Angolan province of Huambo with about 45,000 residents, west of the provincial capital of Huambo.

History

During the Portuguese colonial period until 1975, the town of Vila Robert Williams was named after the engineer and explorer Sir Robert Williams. 2002, after the end of the Angolan Civil War and during the subsequent famine, was Caála location of a nutrition center of the MSF.

Sports

The football club Clube Recreativo da Caála (CR Caála ) plays in the Angolan league, the Girabola (as of season 2013/14 ). Since its inception in 1944, the club is in the home Estádio Martires da Kanhara home. The stadium was modernized along with the other institutions of the Association, in 2008 by the Brazilian company Odebrecht, and holds 8,000 spectators.
